As the Christmas Holiday approaches, Christians around the world will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God. This is but one religion that espouse a firm belief in a single all mighty God. Others have God's and that certainly extends to the new technocrat gods.
That economics and God can find common ground may surprise you, but I see it clearly.
In economics macro or micro the subjects of creativity, cleverness, application and resources are held in high value. Creativity is involved in the vision and cleverness in application of resources and technologies to make ideas reality. This entrepreneur-ism is seen in modern visionaries like Tesla, Edison, Musk and many more. These men and women not only see a future, but actively create that future by manipulating thought and matter, space and time to bring about new inventions and wonders. They are in this way god like. This serves as the "in the image of" part of the biblical creation on mankind.
Creativity as described is the rightful territory of God The Almighty but in a way I call Prime Creation. Prime Creation is the one attribute that religions worldwide attribute to God. They may not use this term but it the something from nothing creative force and ability that God used to create our playing field, the Universe. It may not be the only universe but it is vast beyond comprehension and filled with mysteries to unfold over virtually endless time. The creativity of entrepreneurs etc., uses what was given through Prime Creation and creates within it. These efforts ,though stellar, are still secondary creations utilizing the resources and field that God provided.
Whether the creation of this Universe was willed into existence, fashioned from bits and pieces of other creations or defunct universes, it appeared in an instant, a bang and the thing we call Time began. It is always a mind blower to consider what became before Time because the statement itself implies time existed prior to our Time. That may be the case or it may not be. Time as we experience it is evidenced by change in space. If nothing changes one could not be able to discern any different time because all time would be an instance with no movement, a silent dark stillness...no change. Perhaps that is somewhat akin to God's version of time or perhaps we simply can't envision an all powerful potential able to create this Universe that does not occupy space and time and has no physical presence as in matter but is possessed of infinite potential energy.
God seems to me to be the ultimate resource and maker of all other resources. As powerful as men can be, they are all dependent on this Universe and whether they agree or not dependent on God's Prime Creation. It is pure hubris to think otherwise. A little humility goes a long way.
So with a joyful appreciation of the wondrous resources the Universal Economy has at its disposal, I say we give thanks this Christmas Day and you needn't be a Christian or even religious in nature to participate.
Merry Christmas to All!
