Holidays are set aside to remember, to honor, to inspire, but something happens to them over time. They become mere shadows of their original meaning. When Christmas trees and gifts become more important than Christ or sparklers and fireworks more important than Freedom we lose sight of their true character and meaning.
I'd say that 100 coastal elites can't bring total bravery to equal one Minute Man. The astounding effort and sacrifices made by the men and women of the American Revolution get the short shrift in our celebration of July 4th, Independence Day. It is them we honor. We have Independence from the King of England but what Independence do we have today that can actually be lived?
Of all, Independence of thought is prime. When thought is controlled or even just heavily steered we lose the rest. Being your own counsel requires discernment of what is your thoughts and what is an other's thoughts. Certainly like minds can agree but having the Independence to think for oneself is the key. Being able to observe and to look not listen is key. Remaining Independent in spite of education is good but being Independent because of your education seems better. We have a collective duty to help our children be independent. In large part, we have failed them.
Today, we are told to believe that half of the population are deplorable and parents are terrorists and a man can menstruate. Observe where violence comes from, observe who supports Freedom, observe who wants you gun free and obedient...take that booster or lose your rights. RIGHTS ARE GOD GIVEN and no man has the power to take them away. We must channel those brave souls who brought us our Independence and honor their memory by displaying our own bravery in face of the men who would be king.
Have a Happy Independence Day and celebrate by being Independent year round.
