It was announced yesterday that Special Counsel Smith has indicted President Trump on charges related to the January 6th Capital riots. His third. I have not read this new indictment so I will not comment here on the charges be they well founded or baseless. My guess is that they are faulty.
What I do want to opine on is this trend of going after one's political opponent.
A hallmark of previous transitional governments is political oppression including the imprisonment of rivals for power. Even so called democracies are not immune to using political imprisonment. By imprisonment I am including charges that get tried in kangaroo courts and result in imprisonment. Though these “trials” give the illusion of law they are a perversion of law often bringing cases that would never be made against anyone other than an opponent.
The old adage that a Prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich isn't all that far fetched. Another by Beria of the Soviet Union said" Show me the man and I'll show you the crime". I think he had something there. Finding a crime is just one small step from creating the crime of which gets used to indict, try and convict followed by imprisonment. This gets the opposition out of the way and presumably causes his movement to disband. That seldom is the case but fearful of losing the reigns of power cowardly leaders continue to use such tactics. I believe most Americans can see this happening under the current Administration to President Trump. Alleged crimes that others are not charged with get charged against him. And worse, actual crimes with substantial underpinnings get ignored for favored folks whether family, friend or supporter. This is banana republic stuff. That they even bother to conduct these show trials is actually surprising. It would be so much more expedient to just kill the man. And at times, that is the action of choice.
What I see is very simple and basic. Buck the narrative of those in power and be punished. Dare to utilize the 1st amendment and get silenced one way or the other. A current popular weapon is debanking. Farage in Britain knows much about it. Those Canadian Truckers protesting Trudeau certainly understand it. And many who have spoken out in countries around the globe, USA too, know about it. Speaking out is traditionally and Constitutionally a prime part of life in the USA. Once it focused on the King of England's abuses and now on the lawlessness of our once revered FBI, DOJ, DHS, and other governmental creeps. To criticize power is the American way…but is now replaced by shutting down free speech and getting rid of opposition to the party line. This does not take brilliant observation. It just about hits one over the head in daily onslaughts of lap dogging media. It is quite a sight to see how the media coverage of events differs from reality and the populace at large knows it. Not all, but a goodly number of Citizens understand this game and its purpose. What is that purpose? To Kill. I might have said figuratively but note that I did not. When income is attacked, the desired result is that the victim eat shit and die. A most unpleasant diet.
If you see any of what I see, what can be done about it? Surely we vote out the criminals and restore as best we can the basic tenets of our Constitution. Trim back the bureaucracy or deep state as its called. This depends on a working voting system. Hard to say we have one. The perpetrators must be brought to task using the legal system. We should avoid becoming them if possible. Failing that, we will end up fighting in the streets and it will, like the civil war, be a horrid affair. Too many lies, too much injustice, too much force replacing agreements and understanding and that's what you get. Civil war. I personally see that as an improvement over the couched war because at least it is honest if brutal. The next Presidential election cycle will set the stage for a very different America and a withered Constitution or a restoration and renaissance of Freedom. It is time to channel William Wallace. FREEDOM!!!
