The fires in the Los Angeles area are truly horrific. Living in Reno Nevada, wild fires are no stranger to me. Lats year while visiting family in Chicago, I abruptly cut my visit short after learning the area just South of my place was blazing, near the horse barn too. I lucked out on that one, but many nearby homes were lost. Reno and Nevada in general are prepared for wild fires. Los Angeles seems to have been off their preparedness game but those high winds are ferocious fire feeders and they had more than an unusually hard time with any containment.
My daughter lives in Temple City which is very close to the Eaton Fire. I told her to leave. But like many, waiting too long to evacuate is the common experience.
Our Northern Nevada Air National Guard has 2 C 130s equipped for fire fighting missions and one them is now deployed to L.A among many planes and helicopters with that same capability. God help all of the residents and the first responders.
<y sister in law Laura wrote a heartfelt song about disaster and what people go through…it's title Running for Photographs…the title says a lot.
